This extension of the D line is going to bring people together. It’s going to get us out of our cars. It is going to get us moving faster. And it gives us a sense of community. What a great milestone in L.A. transit history. A great milestone in L.A. history.

Schiff Attends Grand Opening of Metro D Line in L.A., Emphasizes Efforts to Push for Safe and Efficient Transportation Los Angeles, CA – Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) attended the grand opening of the Metro D line, which has expanded west from existing subway lines by nine miles helping riders with direct access to museums, jobs, healthcare, shopping, and neighborhood destinations along one of the region’s busiest corridors. Schiff emphasized the metro extension will not only reduce travel time and strengthen connections between Los Angeles’ most active and cultural centers but will create better transit experiences ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the visit, Schiff rode the first train on the Metro D line where he was able to experience a historic moment for Los Angeles’ economy and infrastructure. Schiff highlighted his continued efforts to push for greater federal funding that will allow for more safe and efficient public transportation in Los Angeles and across California. “This extension of the D line is going to bring people together. It’s going to get us out of our cars. It is going to get us moving faster. And it gives us a sense of community,” said Senator Schiff. “ What a great milestone in L.A. transit history. A great milestone in L.A. history.” Background: The Senator helped secure approximately $91 million, alongside Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), in the 2026 Appropriations bill for L.A. 28 Olympics transportation needs. Additionally, Schiff joined Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Calif.-37) and 35 California colleagues, in requesting the inclusion of $2 billion in the President’s 2027 Budget Request for mobility initiatives ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. I’ve loved traveling around the state and meeting farmers and trying to get to know and understand the issues and the challenges…I can’t imagine a more difficult time to be a farmer than right now, with everything that’s going on between increased input costs and perennial water challenges, regulation, tariffs, boycotts, now, even stuff getting through the Persian Gulf and fertilizer costs. Seems like a perfect storm of challenges. And even at the best of times, it seems like a very challenging line of work, but it’s been an inspiration to meet so many multi-generational farm families that are devoted to farming and making it work and feeding all the rest of us. We continue to want to restore a lot of the SNAP funding that was cut. I want to make sure, apart from that priority, that we’re meeting these specialty crop farmers that don’t tend to get much attention or help in the Farm Bill.

Schiff, the first California Senator to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in over 30 years, discussed his priorities for the 2026 Farm Bill with local farmers, and leaders of the Ventura County Farm Bureau and agriculture industry. Schiff highlighted his commitments to delivering a Farm Bill that empowers specialty crop and small-scale farmers, restores and strengthens nutrition programs, supports research investments, and provides farmers with increased opportunities to succeed in their businesses. And one that protects California’s proposition 12 and delivers the relief that California’s agricultural producers and families need. It’s just a thrill to breathe in the ocean air, to enjoy this incredible beauty around us, and to think that it is now being threatened again by reopening this damaged pipeline. That caused such damage in 2015, resulting in $22 million of losses, but more importantly, the loss of marine life, the loss of the coastal economy here, the injury to small businesses. And for what are we going to risk that. This is really a national issue. And I think moving off of fossil fuels and moving to renewable sources of energy is an environmental imperative. It is a health imperative. It’s an economic imperative. It is a national security imperative.

Schiff, Rep. Carbajal, Local Leaders Call Out Trump Administration’s Attempts to Restart Offshore Oil Operations on Central Coast See the full press conference here. Santa Barbara, CA – U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.-24) joined local Central Coast environmental leaders to rally against the Trump Administration’s attempt to restart offshore oil platforms owned by Sable Offshore Corporation, which uses the same infrastructure that caused the disastrous oil spill off Refugio State Beach in 2015. Schiff raised the alarm on the impacts of the Refugio spill which caused devastation on marine ecosystems and coastal communities as well as extensive costs for environmental clean-up. During the press conference, Schiff emphasized that allowing Sable Offshore Corporation, which has blatantly disobeyed directives from California agencies that are required for offshore oil and pipeline operations, to continue forward with this plan has the potential for extreme devastation. He also highlighted the work he’s doing in the Senate to preserve and protect California’s coastlines and ecosystems. “It’s just a thrill to breathe in the ocean air, to enjoy this incredible beauty around us, and to think that it is now being threatened again by reopening this damaged pipeline. In this increasingly technological world, in this reasonably small, global world that is now going to be severely disrupted by AI, having a solid education in these STEM fields is just essential. I think AI is going to transform the workplace in ways that we have really never seen before and do so with a speed that will be unprecedented also. And I think that really calls on people in Congress to think anew.

While at the college, he toured their Mental Health Services Program, for which Schiff helped deliver $750,000 in federal investments, alongside Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), to increase access to unmet mental health care needs in Barstow and surrounding rural communities. While on campus, Schiff also participated in a roundtable with students from the Mathematics, Engineering, Science, and Achievement (MESA) program, which supports underrepresented students majoring in STEM who intend to transfer to a 4-year college or university. During the roundtable, Schiff heard directly from students on the issues most important to them and discussed his efforts in Congress to make life and education more affordable for Californians. “In this increasingly technological world, in this reasonably small, global world that is now going to be severely disrupted by AI, having a solid education in these STEM fields is just essential. We understand that most of these funds have not been released to the Refuge Complex. Further, we understand that the Department of the Interior is requiring any expense action over $50,000 to be approved by various Assistant Secretaries within the Department. This bureaucratic delay is unnecessary and inefficient, especially for dollars that were appropriated by Congress for major disasters three years ago. We urgently request that you release these funds Congress has appropriated to the Complex to address storm damage and emergency repairs, protect adjacent communities and highways from flooding, and protect important Silicon Valley communities.

Schiff, Bay Area Lawmakers Urge Trump Admin to Release Funding for San Francisco Bay Wildlife Refuge Complex Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and five Bay Area lawmakers urged the Trump administration to release millions of dollars of Congressionally approved funds for San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex, which have been subject to bureaucratic delay at the U.S. Department of Interior. The San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex is an important part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, and in December 2022 and January 2023 experienced severe winter storm damage to its berms, levees, and pump stations that are critical to the Fish and Wildlife Service’s ability to protect Bay Area communities from flooding and manage and restore natural habitats. The lawmakers expressed deep concern that the Complex has yet to receive the full $70 million allocated to them as a part of the 2025 American Relief Act , funding that is crucial to addressing winter storm damage and preventing future flooding in Northern California. “We understand that most of these funds have not been released to the Refuge Complex.
