“The Energy and Commerce Data Privacy Working Group brought together a broad coalition of industry leaders, consumer advocates, and policy experts to develop a clear, consistent, and durable framework for data privacy in the digital age,” said Rep. Obernolte. “For too long, Americans have faced a confusing patchwork of state laws that create uncertainty for businesses and leave consumers without uniform protections. The SECURE Data Act addresses this challenge by establishing a strong national standard that provides clarity for innovators and entrepreneurs while ensuring Americans remain firmly in control of their personal data.

“Patients shouldn’t face delays in critical care because hospitals can’t see available ICU beds just miles away. We saw during COVID what happens when hospitals are operating in the dark. In rural communities especially, where hospitals are often many miles apart, coordination can mean the difference between life and death. This bill improves transparency, strengthens coordination, and helps ensure every patient gets timely, life-saving care.”
